Combining melodies and harmonies influenced by Melatiah's Ukrainian heritage with classical and jazz elements reflecting Melatiah's musical background, Slava provides unique, exhilarating, and soothing vocal music for today's listening audience.
Slava, which means "glory" in Ukrainian, pays homage to the God of the Bible - the one true God, the Alpha and the Omega, Yahweh Yeshua, Jesus, the Savior of the world, and the source of all true liberty. When visiting Ukraine in 1991, Melatiah saw firsthand that the hunger for God in the hearts of the Ukrainian people could not be suppressed by decades of atheistic communist domination. Little did Melatiah know that she would have the thrill of not only being in Ukraine at the moment of the collapse of "the Evil Empire," but also participating with the Ukrainian people in their march to freedom on Ukrainian Independence Day.
Embracing and reflecting the love Ukrainians have for both God and freedom, the name "Melatiah" means "God sets free." The only source of true freedom, Jesus, who is both the Son of God and the Son of Man, came to set the captives (us!) free - from sin, sickness, deception, and destruction. The Bible records Jesus' words: Then Jesus said to those Jews who believed him, "If you abide in my word, you are my disciples indeed. And you shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free." (John 8:31-32) "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." (John 14:6) "Therefore, if the Son makes you free, you shall be free indeed." (John 8:36) Walking in "the perfect law of liberty" (James 1:25, Galatians 5:1), it is Melatiah's desire, as she continues being set free, that she and her music will help other people around the world also be set free by Jesus, to experience the abundant life Jesus came to give all of us. (John 10:10)
